bhavan bhismas cha karnas cha kripas cha samitim-jayah:। ashvatthama vikarnas cha saumadattis tathaiva cha॥ 1.8 ॥ anye cha bahavah sura mad-arthe tyakta-jivitah:। nana-shastra-praharanah sarve yuddha-visaradah:॥ 1.9 ॥

Yourself & Bhishma & Karna & Kripa, who is ever victorious in the battle & even so Asvatthama, Vikarna and the son of Somadatta called Bhurisrava. And many other heroes, equipped with various weapons, who are prepared to lay down their lives for my sake. All of them are experienced in military warfare & science.

aparyaptam tad asmakam balam bhismabhiraksitam। paryaptam tv idam etesam balam bhimabhiraksitam॥ 1.10 ॥

This army of ours, fully protected by Grandfather Bhishma & that makes our strength immeasurable, whereas the strength of the Pandavas, cheerfully protected by Bhima, is easy to conquer.

ayanesu cha sarveshu yatha-bhagam avasthitah:। bishmava bhavantah: sarva eva hi॥ 1.11 ॥
